Stamps mark events leading to 1776 American Revolution
The most recent addition to the stamp scene is an imaginatively designed pane of 15 stamps titled Battlefields of the American Revolution. The stamps were issued April 16 at Minute Man National Historical Park in Concord, Massachusetts.

Man who allegedly tried to kill woman in Elyria Police Department lobby indicted
Daniel Carrillo, 38, of Bond Street, was indicted by a Lorain County grand jury on charges of attempted murder, felonious assault and strangulation, all felonies, and misdemeanor charges of assault and aggravated menacing.

The operator's mother said her daughter was fully licensed and that police were wrong to raid her business, that all her daughter's product was legal and that a gun police found inside belonged to a security guard who had it for protection.

Amherst Schools hosts free eye exam clinic for students
School nurse Erin Gornall said the Ohio Department of Health mandates vision screenings for children every other year after kindergarten. The exams identified dozens of students potentially in need of glasses throughout the district.

This year's parade will step off from Oakwood Park, snaking its way through South Lorain to end at Mexican Mutual, where the nearly 97-year-old social club will open its doors to the public for food, music and further festivities.

Avon Lake rings in Arbor Day, plants trees alongside Bay Village
The city's tree commission, alongside representatives from Bay Village, planted three shagbark hickory trees and three northern catalpa trees at the southern edge of the park. The event also honored Avon Lake's 33rd year as a Tree City USA, a designation awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation to recognize communities that are active in maintaining tree cover.
