NFL Scouting Combine: Keystone grad C.J. Conrad sent home after medical evaluation, will get further tests on heart

INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Kentucky tight end and Keystone High School graduate C.J. Conrad dreamed for years of working out at the scouting combine on the way to fulfilling his NFL dream.He made it all the way to the capital city but was denied a day before hitting the field.The medical personnel wasn't satisfied during the standard evaluation, wouldn't let him work out and sent him back to Lexington, Ky., on Friday for further testing on his heart."They were uncomfortable with something they heard and want further testing done," Mike Conrad, C.J.'s dad, told The Chronicle-Telegram by phone. "It was a real surprise to all of us. He had not had any issues at all."The NFL doctors don't make a diagnosis, they just identify a potential problem. Conrad will be evaluated by University of Kentucky doctors Monday, Mike Conrad said."His health is No. 1," he said. "It kicked us all in the belly. We're trying to process everything."The hope is he's cleared to continue preparing for the NFL Draft in late April. In the ideal scenario, he'd participate in the Kentucky pro day March 22, where NFL teams watch prospects lift weights, run sprints and go through drills.Conrad had been projected as a midround pick. In four years at Kentucky, he had 80 catches for 1,015 yards and 12 touchdowns.The medical tests began Wednesday and continued all day Thursday. The final determination he wouldn't be allowed to work out came Friday morning."They're being very aggressive. We certainly appreciate that," Mike Conrad said. "There is a blessing in here. Maybe they discovered something that needs attention."The Conrads are hoping not.
