Amherst man charged with raping, molesting girl from 2015 to 2018

An Amherst man is facing felony criminal charges for allegedly raping and molesting a child over a three-year span, with the allegations dating back more than a decade ago. Skylar Frederick, 29, of Franklin Avenue, was indicted Sept. 28 in Lorain County Common Pleas Court on seven charges: One count of rape and six counts of gross sexual imposition. Frederick was being held in the Lorain County Jail on $750,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Judge Chris Cook's courtroom. Frederick is a paraprofessional, or an aide, for the Oberlin City Schools. The district was aware of the charges against him, district spokeswoman Melissa Linebrink told The Chronicle-Telegram in an email. "The charges do not involve any Oberlin students," she wrote. "Upon learning of the charges, the employee was placed on leave. The safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority. We respect the criminal justice process and will continue to monitor the situation." According to Frederick's grand jury indictment, the alleged crimes occurred between August 2015 and August 2018 when the alleged victim was younger than 10. Frederick, who was born in 1997, would have been 18 to 21 years old at the time. The victim alleged that Federick forced her to perform sex acts on him, Chief Assistant Lorain County Prosecutor Chris Pierre said Tuesday. The Chronicle-Telegram does not name alleged victims of sexual assault. Frederick's attorney, Andrew Ortner, said Tuesday he had no comment at this time.
