H.S. Roundup: Firelands edges Brookside with field goal at finish

SHEFFIELD — Landon Becker called game. Becker made the winning field goal — it was good by plenty — on the final play Friday night to give Firelands a 40-37 win over Brookside in a Lorain County League opener. The Falcons (3-1) tied the game in the fourth quarter with a Liam Tobicash rushing touchdown, giving them the chance for the late win. Tobicash got the scoring started for Firelands with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter. He also threw a touchdown pass to Lucas Green. Max Brown took a kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown for the Falcons. Mason Waechter kept the Cardinals (0-4) offense churning with three rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown to Colton Casey. Euclid 56, Lorain 21 LORAIN — In what was a close game after a Panthers muffed punt in the third quarter, Leonard McCall's touchdown pass to Tyler Chapman was the last score for the Titans in Greater Cleveland Conference action. McCall and Chapman connected on another touchdown in the second quarter. The Titans offense got started when McCall found Amari Neal on a hitch route. Olmsted Falls 35, Elyria 13 ELYRIA — Struggling out of the gate and facing a 35-0 halftime deficit, the Pioneers offense started to turn its gears and scored two touchdowns in the second half of Southwestern Conference action. The Pioneers have lost 27 straight and will face North Ridgeville (0-4) next Friday.
