New Hampshire man dies in hospital 3 weeks after motorcycle crash on I-90 in Avon

A New Hampshire man severely injured in an Aug. 4 motorcycle crash on Interstate 90 in Avon has died in a Cleveland hospital. Charlie St. Clair, 76, of Laconia, New Hampshire, died Saturday at MetroHealth Medical Center. The cause was heart failure, the Laconia Motorcycle Week Rally said in a Facebook post announcing his death. St. Clair was riding a 2000 Harley Davidson in the center lane of I-90 in Avon just before 7 p.m. Aug. 4 when his rear tire blew out, according to an Avon police crash report. St. Clair lost control and crashed, his motorcycle coming to rest on the right berm at the base of the Nagel Road on-ramp. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital by the Avon Fire Department, according to the crash report. No one else was injured and no one was cited. The executive director of Laconia Motorcycle Week for the past 35 years, St. Clair was a longtime motorcycle rider who was headed to Sturgis Bike Week in Sturgis, South Dakota, the world's largest motorcycle rally. He had been inducted into the Sturgis Museum Hall of Fame in 2008. An elected member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2017 until his death, St. Clair was a Democrat who represented Laconia. "Charlie is incredibly fortunate to have so many friends and family," the Laconia Motorcycle Week Rally said on Facebook.
