Jacqueline 'Jackie' Hicks

Jacqueline 'Jackie' Hicks (nee Prater), 95, of LaGrange, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, July 20, 2026, in Medina, Ohio, following a short illness. Born May 27, 1931, in Garrett, Kentucky, Jackie was the daughter of the late Hager Prater and Laura Ratliff Prater. She made LaGrange her home, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. Jackie was a devoted member of the LaGrange Church of God and was instrumental in helping establish the church during its early years. She faithfully maintained the church's records for many years, dedicating countless hours of service to her church family. She found joy in life's simple pleasures. Jackie loved gardening and preserving her harvest through canning, and she was especially talented at quilting and crocheting. More than anything, she cherished gathering her family around the table for Sunday dinners after church and creating lasting memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jackie is survived by her loving sons, Fred (Karen) Hicks of Chippewa Lake, Ohio, and Gary (Dianne) Hicks of St. Petersburg, Florida. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Leta (Doug) Turnbaugh of Medina, Ohio, Matt (BryAnna) Hicks of Wellington, Ohio, and Caleb Hicks of St. Petersburg, Florida. Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren, Katelyn (Collin) Brink, Edwin Hicks of Wellington, Ohio, and Maddison Hicks of Wellington, Ohio. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ballard Hicks; her son, Steven Hicks; and her brothers, Rueben Prater and Robert Prater. The family welcomes friends to join them Friday, July 24, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, with the service beginning at 12 noon, at The Vine Community Church (LaGrange Church of God), 502 N. Center Street, LaGrange, Ohio, with Reverend Danny Wright officiating. Interment will follow at River Road Cemetery in LaGrange Township. The family respectfully suggests that memorial contributions be made in Jackie's memory to Miracle City Hospice of Broadview Heights, Ohio, or to the LaGrange Fire Department. Jackie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her servant's heart, her dedication to her family and church, and the love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
