Naked Michigan fugitive who hid in former Elyria school facing 5 charges

A Michigan man who ran naked from police and University Hospitals security last month before being found hiding in the ductwork of a closed Elyria school has been indicted in Lorain County Common Pleas Court. Demarkis Taylor, 28, of Detroit, was being held in the Lorain County Jail on $227,500 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on felony charges of burglary, violating a protection order and obstructing official business, and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and public indecency. Lorain County Sheriff's deputies went to UH Elyria, where Taylor was being treated for an unknown reason, on April 22 to arrest him on a warrant for failure to appear in court. As deputies tried to take Taylor into custody, Asia Hunt, 20, also of Detroit, allegedly assaulted one of them and distracted them long enough to allow Taylor to escape. Uniformed and plainclothes police, K-9 units and drones searched for Taylor for more than an hour. Elyria City Schools delayed releasing elementary students from the nearby Eastern Heights campus until authorities said it was safe. It turned out Taylor had only made it as far as next door, where officers found him hiding in the ductwork of the former McKinley Elementary School. Still naked, he was carried away and placed in the back of a police cruiser. Hunt was charged in Elyria Municipal Court with assault on a law enforcement officer, a felony, as well as resisting arrest and obstructing official business, both misdemeanors. She is free on bond, according to jail records, and her case being considered by a grand jury.
