Julia Anne Abrahamowicz

Julia 'Julie' Anne Abrahamowicz, 84, of Lorain, passed away peacefully Friday, April 24, 2026 at Life Care Center of Elyria in Elyria, Ohio. Julie was born to her loving parents, Dwight and Hazel Torbert, on November 16, 1941. She was a proud graduate of Lorain High School and in midlife went on to get her Master's degree at Ashland Theological Seminary. Guided by her deep desire to serve others, Julie devoted her professional life to social work, providing chemical dependency counseling through the VA and at Grafton Correctional Facility. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Hazel (nee Pierce) Torbert; and sister, Jane Lynn. Julie is survived by her beloved daughter, Amy (Judd) Smerglia; treasured grandchildren, Emily, Ethan, and Abigail Smerglia; her dear pet and companion, Josie; and nieces, Chrys Moore, Cynthia Lynn, and Suzi Lynn-Kline. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Wes Holiday, Caitlyn Crowell, the staff at Life Care Center of Elyria, and Mercy Palliative Care who cared for Julie with love and compassion. The family will receive friends in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain, Ohio on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Father Thomas Sanders, officiating.
