Renee Suzanne May

Renee Suzanne May (nee Kerekes), 74, of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at West Care Center in Westlake following a brief illness. She was born November 17, 1951, in Lorain and remained a lifelong resident of the community she loved. Renee devoted her life to faith, family, and education. She was a second-grade teacher at Ely School in Elyria, where she touched the lives of countless students through her kindness, patience, and dedication. Prior to her teaching career, she was actively involved at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught in the grade school and taught confirmation classes. She was a graduate of Marian L. Steele High School and earned her Bachelor of Education from Ashland University. Renee enjoyed attending class reunions and retiree breakfasts with cherished friends, always valuing the bonds of friendship throughout her life. Renee was an avid reader who dearly loved books and the library. Above all, she was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and devoted grandmother whose warmth and care will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Michael D. May; her two sons, Bryan May and Michael J. May; and James Vidovich; her siblings, Gene Kerekes II of Reynoldsburg, Julie (Greg) Peltz of Avon Lake, Mary (Greg) Northeim of Amherst; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Dorothy Kerekes (nee Zvosec). The family will receive friends Monday, April 27, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Hempel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The Reverend Father Timothy O'Connor, of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
