Lorain resident Aaron Knapp arrested on six criminal charges (UPDATED)

Lorain resident and former City Council candidate Aaron Knapp was arrested Tuesday and is facing six criminal charges in Lorain Municipal Court, according to court and jail records. Knapp, 52, of Talbot Lane, was booked into the Lorain County Jail at 11:20 a.m. on charges of telecommunications harassment, one count each of violating a protection order, possession of criminal tools and disturbing a lawful meeting. All are believed to be misdemeanors. He was being held without bond, according to Sheriff Jack Hall. He said he didn't known when Knapp's initial court date would be. The Chronicle-Telegram requested copies of police reports. Hall said Knapp refused to have his photograph taken during the booking process. That could keep him in jail longer than he intended. When something like that happens with a defendant, "we usually advise the court he's unwilling to fulfill the booking process," Hall said. He said courts typically will order the defendant held until they comply and allow their photo to be taken. Knapp's associate, Garon Petty, 75, of Ivanhoe Drive, also turned himself in on a warrant charging him with disturbing a lawful meeting, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Hall said that charge was filed by Lorain police, apparently resulting from a meeting in October. Bond was $250. This is a developing story. Follow The Chronicle for more.
