Lorain County Democratic leaders endorse Martin Heberling for U.S. Congress

Martin Heberling on Thursday announced endorsements from local Democratic leaders. Heberling is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Ohio's 5th Congressional District. A Lorain City Schools teacher, union leader and former Amherst City Councilman, Heberling received the endorsements of Matt Lundy, a former Lorain County commissioner and former state representative; Avon Lake City Councilman David Kos, Ward 4; Amherst City Councilwoman Becky Harmych, D-Ward 2; and Lorain City Councilman Jeff Bearer, D-7th Ward. They praised what they said are his leadership abilities, dedication and civil service. In a news release, Heberling said he was grateful and "honored" for the endorsements. "This campaign is about protecting access to quality healthcare, strengthening our public schools, and fighting for good-paying union jobs that allow families to build a stable future," he said. "The people of Ohio's 5th District deserve leadership that will stand up for working families and invest in the opportunities that keep our communities strong." Heberling will face Daniel John Burket of Findlay, Brian Shaver of Fostoria and Scott Tabor of Columbia Township in the May primary. U.S. Rep. Bob Latta, R-Bowling Green, is unopposed in the Republican primary. Libertarian Michael Veloff is a write-in candidate.
