Keon Ellis latest Cavs player with finger fracture

Finger injuries have become prevalent with the hard-luck Cavaliers. For the second time in two games, one of Cleveland's guards has fractured one of their fingers. The latest setback occurred in the Milwaukee game Wednesday when valuable reserve guard Keon Ellis injured his left index finger. A postgame examination by the club's medical staff, followed by X-rays taken at the arena, confirmed a non-displaced volar plate avulsion of his left index PIP joint. In this case, the volar plate, which is a thick ligament on the palm side of a finger joint, is partially torn or detached from the bone. Ellis will undergo treatment and continued evaluation. He was listed as questionable for the Detroit game at Little Caesars Arena on Friday. Point guard James Harden suffered a broken right thumb in the New York game Tuesday and missed the Milwaukee game. He was also listed as questionable for Detroit. The Cavs acquired Ellis on Feb. 7 as part of a three-team deal involving the Sacramento Kings and the Chicago Bulls. Cleveland sent forward De'Andre Hunter to the Kings for Ellis and Dennis Schroder. In nine games with the Cavs, Ellis is averaging 6.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals and is shooting .344 from the 3-point line (11-of-32). He had his best game since coming to Cleveland against the Bucks with 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. Contact Bob Finnan at (440) 329-7135 or rfinnan30@gmail.com.
