Today - The Brownhelm Historical Association has amassed a sizable family genealogy collection and is opening its archives to the public for those interested in researching local family lineages. Family names featured in the March genealogical sessions will include Lutz and Whittlesey. Sessions will be at 1 p.m. today and March 28 at the Historic Brownhelm School, 1950 N. Ridge Road, Vermilion. The association will display historic family photos and other interesting documents along with genealogy records. Sessions are free and open to the public. Monday - Oberlin Democrats and Lorain County Rural Democrats will present four labor leaders discussing the 2026 elections. Jim Slone, president of Lorain County United Auto Workers Community Action Program Council; Willa Evans of United Steelworkers Local 979, Civil Rights chair; Brian Baker, former International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers political director; and Chuck Brooky, president of National North Central Ohio Building Trades, will present at 6:30 p.m. at the Oberlin Library, 65 S. Main St., Oberlin. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday Tim Branscum is presenting "The Quarry Story: The Amherst Quarries'' at 7 p.m. at the Amherst Historical Society Hall, 113 S. Saturday, March 28 - "Princess and the Frog" sing-along 2-4 p.m. at the Lorain Main Library that includes a screening of the film and themed snacks. - The chess club just for younger patrons, from grade school to teens, 3-5 p.m. at the Columbia Library. Learn how to play chess, solve puzzles, watch live international competitions and compete head-to-head in friendly matches. All skill levels welcome.
