Nordson plans to move approximately 150 positions out of Amherst

Changes are coming for the Nordson facility in Amherst, with more than 100 jobs being relocated to a new facility in Westlake. In a statement Thursday, the Nordson Corp. announced that it will be relocating the jobs of about 150 employees from Amherst to Westlake in Cuyahoga County, where its global headquarters are. The positions that will be relocated were described as "corporate employees," said Lara Mahoney, vice president of investor relations and communications for Nordson. As for noncorporate positions, approximately "100 employees from Nordson Industrial Coatings will remain in Amherst for the time being," Mahoney stated in an email. The move is expected to take place next fall, according to Maria Spangler, director of the Nordson Foundation. No further details of what is planned for the Amherst facility were provided Thursday. Nordson said it is evaluating the location's next steps. "Northeast Ohio continues to be an important part of Nordson's legacy, and the organization remains committed to the area now and in the future through its operations, community involvement and foundational giving," Mahoney said. "The new headquarters, which is located nearly across the street from the current headquarters, will enable all Northeast Ohio corporate employees currently located in multiple facilities across Amherst and Westlake to work together in one building, strengthening collaboration and engagement," Mahoney wrote. Mahoney added that the transition to Westlake will give Nordson more room for potential growth, technological improvement and meeting space for global events. "In addition to supporting a culture of collaboration, connection and engagement, the new space will include new benefits and amenities for employees, along with room to grow in the future," Spangler said. Nordson engineers, manufactures and sells products for dispensing adhesives, coatings, sealants and biomaterials; fluid management; testing and inspection products; and for UV curing and plasma surface treatment. Amherst Mayor Mark Costilow said there wasn't much Amherst could do to keep Nordson from moving the jobs. Costilow said the company has been "a great asset" to Amherst for a long time. "I hate that they're going, they've been such a wonderful partner to Amherst over the years," he said. Costilow said the buildings Nordson will be leaving behind were renovated in recent years and are reusable. "I'm fairly confident when they sell, another really good business comes to town," he said Thursday. It is the latest in a series of job moves at the Amherst facility. Nordson announced in June 2024 that it was moving about one-third of its Industrial Coating Systems division workforce to South Carolina.
