Donovan Mitchell clutch in the fourth, Cavs rally to beat Grizzlies

CLEVELAND — The Cavaliers are not the 64-win team from last year."We have to let last year go," Cleveland guard Donovan Mitchell said after his team's 108-100 come-from-behind victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday at Rocket Arena.Mitchell fired in 14 of his game-high 30 points in the fourth quarter. He added five rebounds, five assists and two steals.The Cavs (9-5) outscored the Grizzlies 32-16 in the final quarter and held Memphis to 5-of-17 shooting from the field (.294)."This is a whole new season," Mitchell said. "Drop last year. We haven't put it together. Things change. It's not last year. It's not pretty right now. There are different lineups. Different guys. It takes time."Power forward Evan Mobley rebounded from a poor outing Thursday by scoring 22 points and pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds. He added four assists and a game-high four blocks.One of his swats came on an attempted dunk by 7-foot-4 Zach Edey, who was making his season debut after offseason surgery on his left ankle."That was a Defensive Player of the Year block," Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson said.Mobley said the play developed before his eyes and he knew the 305-pounder was going to attempt to throw it down."You've got to go for those," he said. "I knew Edey was going to go up and I went up with him and got the block."Cleveland's defense had been ineffective in the last week."We got stops," Mobley said. "You have to remember your identity and who you are. You can't get down on yourself. We're a defensive first team."The Cavs trailed 84-76 entering the fourth quarter. They finally took the lead at 91-90 on Mitchell's 3-pointer with 6:34 remaining. That lit a spark under Mitchell, who dominated play the rest of the quarter.Reserve forward Nae'Qwan Tomlin once again was a dynamo for Cleveland. He had just two points, but added four rebounds, two blocks and one steal."I don't care about his mistakes," Mitchell said. "His motor is unbelievable. We all feed off that. It's great to see him elevate his play. To have a guy like that can change the whole dynamic of the game."Atkinson said none of the Cavs should be surprised by Tomlin's recent play."He was elite in summer league," he said. "He's building confidence. He's like a racehorse. He's all over the place. He looks like he's playing in an open gym in September."Point guard Lonzo Ball was also huge off the bench with nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.Center Jarrett Allen added 16 points and six rebounds, while guard Sam Merrill had 13 points.Cleveland won the battle of the boards, 49-45, and shot .458 from the field, compared to Memphis' .360.Grizzlies power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. had a team-high 26 points and Edey added 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.On the night of his return, point guard Ja Morant was limited to six minutes before leaving with a right calf injury."We were stuck in the mud again for three quarters," Atkinson said. "We couldn't get on a sustained run until the fourth quarter. This is four games in a row where we have not shot it well. Donovan made some great plays. Our defense saved us."We found a way.
