Two Avon businesses want to expand alcohol sales and need voters to say OK

AVON — Issues 2 and 3 asks voters to approve Sunday liquor sales for two local establishments -- Hecks Cafe and Topgolf Avon. Located at 35546 Detroit Road, Hecks Cafe is open seven days a week, serving brunch, lunch and dinner. With locations also in Ohio City and Beachwood, the eatery is asking voters to approve the sale of alcohol on Sundays. Topgolf Avon, located at 35343 Chester Road, also wants voters to approve the sale of liquor on Sundays. Currently, Topgolf only serves beer on Sundays, but is able to sell liquor spirits, specialty cocktails, wine and beer Monday through Saturday. "We wish to extend our full drink menu to Sundays," according to Cheree Goodall, senior licensing manager with Topgolf. Topgolf, which opened in September, employs more than 200 people. The Avon location is the fifth for Topgolf, which is described as "a modern golf experience where anyone - including people who have never picked up a golf club and those who want to perfect their swing - can participate in the sport in a relaxed, no-pressure environment." Topgolf Avon features 64 outdoor, climate-controlled hitting bays spanning two levels with a full-service bar and restaurant. Players are able to enjoy year-round play from the comfort of Topgolf's all-weather bays. "One present concern is that Sunday sales of wine and spirits are not currently permitted at Topgolf Avon," Goodall said. "To remedy this, we've placed an initiative, Issue 3, on the upcoming November ballot. Many nearby hospitality establishments like Cooper's Hawk, Chili's, Longhorn and Main Event have similarly received voter approval and can now serve their full drink menu seven days (a week.)
