Lorain County AFL-CIO endorses candidates, issues on Nov. 4 ballot

The Lorain County AFL-CIO Federation of Labor on Oct. 2 announced its list of endorsed candidates and issues in the Nov. 4 general election. The labor organization endorsed the following issues: Issue 10, Oberlin's 3.25-mill, continuing renewal levy for expenses at the Oberlin Public Library&emsp;&emsp; Issue 11, Oberlin's 1.2-mill, five-year levy for current city expenses Issue 12, Oberlin's 3-mill, five-year levy for garbage collection and disposal Issue 14, Columbia Township's 1-mill replacement levy with 1-mill increase to equal 2 mills for five years for streets, roads and bridges Issue 17, Elyria Schools' additional 4.9-mill, 10-year levy for emergency requirements Issue 20, Grafton/Midview Public Library's 1.25-mill replacement plus .25-mill increase to equal 1.5 mills for a continuing amount of time for current expenses Issue 21, Lorain Schools' 23.85-mill renewal levy for a continuing amount of time for current expenses Issue 22, Lorain Schools' 3.22-mill, 10-year renewal levy for emergency requirements Issue 23, Oberlin Schools' 2.72-mill, 10-year renewal levy for emergency requirements &emsp;&emsp; Issue 24, Oberlin Schools' 2-mill, five-year renewal levy for general permanent improvements &emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp;&emsp; For candidates, the AFL-CIO endorsed the following (Terms of office all are four years unless otherwise noted, and races are nonpartisan unless otherwise noted): Amherst: Kelly Miller, Democrat for treasurer Avon Lake: Geoff Smith, council-at-large Elyria: Gina Rothgery, Democrat for council-at-large, two-year term&emsp;&emsp; Lorain: Democrats Joel Arredondo, president of Council; Tony Dimacchia and Mary Springowski, council-at-large; Andy Drwal, 1st Ward; Jeff Bearer, 7th Ward; and Joshua Thornsberry, 8th Ward. All are two-year terms. &emsp;&emsp; Lorain Municipal Court: Linda Webber, judge, six-year term. North Ridgeville: Democrats Susan Olsen, Paul Wolanski and Cali Zingale, all running for council-at-large.
