Multi-vehicle crash on state Routes 20 and 58 results in 'serious injury'

A crash between two vehicles Monday night at the intersection of state Route 20 and state Route 58 resulted in a serious injury to a motorist who ran a red light, according to the Oberlin Police Department. At approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday, a black Chevrolet Equinox owned and operated by Deborah Charlotte Struble, 61, of Rochester, collided with a white, unidentified Ford vehicle owned and operated by Richard E. Sherrard, of Wakeman, according to a report by the Oberlin Police Department. According to authorities, Struble was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She was seriously injured and taken by EMS to the UH Elyria Medical Center, according to the Oberlin Police Department. Officers said while traveling eastbound on state Route 20 Monday night, Struble began to make a left turn onto state Route 58, when the traffic signal for her was red. Sherrard was traveling westbound on state Route 20 at the time and "had a green light and had the right of way through the intersection," according to authorities. Sherrad's vehicle struck Struble's and veered off the road near the northwest corner of the intersection. Responders from the Oberlin Fire Department and Southern Lorain County Ambulance District were able to remove Struble from the vehicle, the report stated.
