Bond revoked for Lorain woman who 'joked' about killing victim in assault case

A Lorain woman who allegedly lured a man to a meeting in January where he was assaulted and held against his will has had her bond revoked by a judge after she allegedly told her boyfriend in a recorded jail phone call that she wanted the victim killed. Gabrielle Brock's attorney said Friday that she was only joking when she was recorded making the comment on a Sept. 10 call with her boyfriend from the Lorain County Jail. "Someone needs to kill him or something," Brock told her boyfriend, Cody Robbins, after mentioning the alleged victim by name. Brock, 20, of Dayton Avenue, was indicted Sept. 4 in Lorain County Common Pleas Court on one count each of felonious assault and kidnapping, both felonies with attached firearms specifications. She allegedly had a gun during the Jan. 23 incident, according to her charges. It's alleged that Brock contacted the alleged victim on Instagram and asked him to meet up with her. When he did, he was hit in the head with a gun and held against his will, according to statements in court. Booked Sept. 10 into the Lorain County Jail, Brock hired attorney Michael Stepanik. She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Sept. 11 in Judge Donna Freeman's court. Freeman set bond at $250,000 cash plus a personal bond. Brock asked Sept. 12 to have her bond reduced, Freeman heard the request in person on Sept. 19 and reduced Brock's bond to $50,000 cash or surety. Conditions of Brock's bond were that she wear a GPS monitor and have no contact with the alleged victim, according to court records. Brock posted bond and was released Sept. 25, according to jail and court records. Assistant Lorain County Prosecutor Tina Kishman filed a motion Sept. 26 to revoke Brock's bond after prosecutors listened to a jail call between Brock and her boyfriend, Cody Robbins, that was recorded Sept. 10. On the call, Brock allegedly asked Robbins if "anyone" had gone to the alleged victim's house yet, calling him by name. "Somebody needs to kill him or something," Brock told her boyfriend. "OK, buddy, you're crazy," Robbins replied, according to court documents. "I'm just saying, bruh, you know all this (expletive)'s recorded. Like, I know you're joking, but they don't know you're joking." "I am," Brock replied. "You are a, damn, a violent felon right now. They are taking you seriously," Robbins replied according to the Prosecutor's Office. Kishman wrote that after hearing that call, her office "has grave and immediate concerns for the victim's safety" and asked Brock's bond be immediately revoked. Freeman did so on Wednesday and issued a warrant for Brock's arrest, according to court records. Stepanik on Friday said Brock was clearly joking in the phone call, and said so. The call also was made "weeks before" Brock was let out of jail, Stepanik said, questioning whether the alleged victim was ever in danger because of what Brock said. He said prosecutors took the "worst possible interpretation" of the phone call and used it to convince the judge to revoke his client's bond. A warrant is out for Brock's arrest, but Stepanik said she's not going anywhere. "She's on GPS. They know where she's at," he said. Stepanik also is representing Robbins in a separate, unrelated case. Robbins, 21, of West 19th Street in Lorain pleaded not guilty Sept. 11 to failure to comply with a police order, a felony, in a case also assigned to Freeman's court.
