Candidate Night' for Oberlin, Vermilion judicial races is Sept. 8

The Lorain County Bar Association will host a "Candidate Night" at 6 p.m. Monday (Sept. 8) for candidates for the Oberlin and Vermilion municipal court judgeships on the November ballot. The event will be held in the cafetorium at Marion L. Steele High School, 450 Washington St., Amherst. The candidates for Oberlin Municipal Court are Farah Emeka, currently the chief prosecutor for the court, and attorney Richard Ramsey, former Amherst treasurer. They are seeking to replace retiring Judge Thomas Januzzi. Oberlin Municipal Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanor and traffic cases and minor civil matters in Oberlin and Amherst; the villages of Kipton, Rochester, South Amherst and Wellington; and the townships of Amherst, Brighton, Camden, Henrietta, Huntington, New Russia, Penfield, Pittsfield, Rochester and Wellington. For Vermilion Municipal Court, veteran attorneys David Berta and Kenneth Lieux are squaring off to replace Judge Zack Dolyk, who can't run again due to age limits on judges. Lieux is a longtime criminal defense attorney in Lorain County and Berta is an attorney and former Lorain County Domestic Relations judge. Vermilion Municipal Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanor and traffic offenses and minor civil matters in the city of Vermilion and in Brownhelm Township. Judges Januzzi and Dolyk will serve as moderators for the evening. Both judicial races are nonpartisan.
