Rotarians launch scholarships The North Coast Rotary Club of Avon Lakeawarded several scholarships for its annual distribution. The performances are: "Spitfire Grill,'' "Christmas Belles,'' "Same Time Next Year,'' "Harvey'' and "Chapter Two.'' Today - The Garford Arts Fest will be from 4 to 9 p.m. at the East Falls Riverwalk in downtown Elyria. The free event highlights local makers, artisans and musicians from Elyria and the surrounding area, and offers opportunities for aspiring artists to participate in 'make and take' items to be part of the art. Kerstetter Way will be lined with vendors selling a variety of handmade and unique goods, locally made sweet treats and thriving plants. These small businesses are selected through an application process to ensure that only local creatives and makers are featured. Live artists will be creating masterpieces in real time throughout the evening, adding to the already decorated Kerstetter underpass. Art Alley, or Tremont Street, will be an outdoor art gallery highlighting more than 20 unique artists. Grab a drink from the cash bar presented by Foundry Kitchen and Bar, and catch live performances on two stages all evening long. Food trucks will be at the scenic overlook. - Lorain County Public Health and local agencies aims to raise awareness on overdoses during Chalk the Walk from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ely Square in Elyria. The community is invited to attend and create uplifting messages to reduce stigma on substance use and overdose. The event also aims to encourage and support people seeking or currently in recovery from a substance use disorder. At the free event, chalk is available to anyone who wants to participate. Other attractions include: music, naloxone (Narcan) rescue kits, and food for purchase. Hear local recovery stories throughout the event. Everyone is encouraged to wear purple for overdose awareness. Tuesday - Visit modern quilter Heidi Massingill and learn about her techniques and methods during open studio hours at the North Ridgeville Library branch from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 19 and Aug. 26. Heart and Sole fresh produce pick-ups from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 19, 26 and Sept. 2 and 9 at the North Ridgeville Library branch.
