Board of Elections: Filing deadline is Aug. 6 for Nov. 4 general election

Anyone considering running for elected office in the Nov. 4 general election is encouraged to file their petitions with the Lorain County Board of Elections as far ahead of time as possible before the Aug. 6 deadline. "We encourage people who are considering a run for public office to file their petitions as soon as possible," Director Paul Adams said in a news release. The Ohio secretary of state's office provides a candidate requirement guide featuring information such as circulating petitions, fees, and write-in candidate information. The deadline to file nominating petitions for candidates in nonpartisan races; to certify local questions and issues, including local option petitions; and to file declarations of candidacy for candidates, and questions and issues for the Nov. 4 general election is 4 p.m., Aug. 6. The voter registration and update of information deadline for the Nov. 4 election is by 9 p.m. Oct. 6. The board of elections office will be open until 9 p.m. that day. Early/absentee voting begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 7, and the polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Election Day. The Lorain County Board of Elections is at 1985 North Ridge Road in Sheffield Township. The phone number there is (440) 326-5900. "Our office staff is here weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to answer any questions and assist with any filing needs," Adams said. "Candidates can also pull petitions from our office. Our website will be updated several times a week with those candidates who have submitted their petitions."
