Lorain libraries provide summer lunch for kids Summer lunch for kids weekdays through Aug. 29 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Lorain Main Library, South Lorain Library branch, and the Domonkas Library branch. For ages 18 and younger. Local Author Fair at Ritter Public Library The third annual Ritter Public Library Local Author Fair is coming Aug. 30. Local authors are invited to display and sell their work, meet the community and can read an excerpt from their work, if they choose. An estimated 200 people attended last year's Local Author Fair. Today The Oberlin Heritage Center will host history walks through Oberlin every Saturday in June, pointing out the community's role on the Underground Railroad for a 90-minute walk. Sunday - The seventh annual Paddle Fest Poker Run will kick off at the Vermilion Port Authority. The event is from 8:30 a.m. to noon and starts from the South Street Boat Launch at 777 W. River Road, Vermilion. Registration after June 8 is $30 a person. This is a nonalcoholic, family-friendly event. It is open to all types of paddle craft, including kayaks, canoes, stand up paddle boards and more. This year's theme is '80s disco, and dressing up is encouraged. Participants are limited to 125 and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Paddlers can choose their start time at 9 or 9:30 a.m. Meet at the launch 30 minutes prior to start time, leaving time to unload, park and get supplies before launching. Participants are encouraged to carpool as parking is limited. Once launched, paddle the Vermilion River south to state Route 2 and back, stopping at 5 Points to get a playing card. Prizes will be given for the top three hands at the end of the events. Winners will be announced at noon, and raffles and door prizes will be announced. The top three prizes are $100, $75 and $50. This book club is designed for children in first to third grade, but anyone who loves the series is welcome to attend. Today, book 6, "Afternoon on the Amazon,'' will be explored. City Fresh is a Community Supported Agriculture program working to create access to fresh, local vegetables for all. With a weekly payment, participants receive a grab bag of the freshest seasonal produce, known as a "share." Shares come in single or family sizes and are offered at tiered prices. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy the concerts. Tunes on Tappan will feature a musical lineup of local bands. The Oberlin Recreation Department will also host Family Fun Nights on Tappan Square during the concerts. Both are free.
