Guardians notes: Carlos Santana out of lineup for second straight game with hamstring tightness

CLEVELAND — Carlos Santana was out of the lineup for the second straight game with hamstring tightness, but manager Stephen Vogt was optimistic the first baseman would return soon. "Just trying to be super cautious with this and make sure that it doesn't turn into something big," Vogt said. "Figured it was a tough weekend, tough road trip (to Minnesota and Detroit). He played every day on that road trip up until (Sunday), so just want to make sure we knock this thing out and get him back in there, hopefully (Tuesday)." After a slow start, Santana has begun to pick up steam at the plate, batting .381 (8-for-21) with four extra-base hits and six RBIs over his last five games. He has RBIs in 13 of his last 20 games, reaching base in 24 of his last 25 games. + Right-hander Shane Bieber was scheduled to throw live batting practice in Goodyear, Arizona, on Monday. If that goes well, he will start in an Arizona Complex League game Saturday. + David Fry (elbow surgery) had his rehab assignment moved from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus, where he will take the final step to making his season debut with the Guardians. "With our rehab calendars, we go one week at a time," Vogt said. "Off the top of my head, I don't recall the date where he's eligible from the 60-day IL. I know there is a date where he's available, but we take it a day at a time, week at a time." Bo knows 2 Vogt has moved catcher Bo Naylor into the second spot in the order. Naylor entered Monday with five extra-base hits and a .273 average (6-for-22) over his last seven games. "It's no secret we've struggled to get production in the two hole, and Bo's been swinging the bat really well," Vogt said. "It helps us with matchups, it helps us with doing some different things and Bo's really earned this opportunity. We like the way he's been swinging the bat and taking good at-bats." Roundin' third The Guardians entered Monday owning an American League-best 27-15 (.643 winning percentage) record against right-handed starters.
