Courtney Griffiths named Elyria associate superintendent

ELYRIA — The Board of Education voted Wednesday to appoint Courtney Griffiths as the district's new associate superintendent of academic services, effective Aug. 1. A press release from the district sent Wednesday night announced the promotion of Griffiths, who has been with Elyria Schools for the past seven years. She will replace departing Associate Superintendent Natalie Matthews. "In my current role, I've had the privilege of collaborating with teachers and administrators across the district on a variety of committees and initiatives that have deepened my understanding of our district's priorities and the challenges facing our staff, students and families," Griffiths said in the release. "I'm honored to step into the role of Associate Superintendent and look forward to continuing to support the important work that is happening across our district." Griffiths began working in the district seven years ago when she became an assistant principal at Elyria High School. She has spent the past four years as an associate principal there. "As a Principal, Courtney has demonstrated exceptional leadership and depth of knowledge, and a strategic approach to problem-solving," Superintendent Ann Schloss said in the release. "She brings enthusiasm and energy to every conversation, and nurtures collaboration among teams. She's tackled difficult issues with wisdom and heart, and I know she will thrive in this role." Prior to joining Elyria Schools, Griffiths was a teacher and then administrator for the Lorain County Joint Vocational School. Griffiths was present at the meeting Wednesday, and was joined by her husband, Jeremy, and two sons, Joey and Sam. "When I came to Elyria High School seven years ago, I could never have imagined the level of personal and professional growth that I have experienced alongside an incredible team of teachers, administrators and staff," Griffiths said in the release. "The academic and extracurricular opportunities and support available for our students, coupled with the dedication of our teachers and administrators, make Elyria High School a phenomenal place to be and I am very grateful for my time there."
