`Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' on stage at Olde Town Hall Theatre

NORTH RIDGEVILLE — It's red and yellow and green and brown and scarlet and black and ochre and peach … it's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'' performed live this month and next by Old Towne Hall Theatre. "It's a long-standing family favorite," producer Vic DiAngelo said of the musical. "It's a timeless, classic musical and just a fun show that has some great music." That great music has a lot of great talent to belt it out, too. "Sometimes you go through rehearsals in the weeks leading up to opening and you're really nervous," he said. "This time, I'm not nervous. The singing, acting, harmonies — it's really coming together. I've watched what they're doing and I get more and more excited every day." Rehearsals started at the beginning of March, taking place four nights a week for six weeks. "We have 15 actors from around the area, ranging in age from 12 to 50 years old," DiAngelo said. "Quite a few are from our youth group and some are new to the area." The Old Towne Hall production is a smaller-scale version of the original "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.'' Running time is about an hour and a half. "It's a nice, intimate show," DiAngelo said. "The performers become the storytellers. The audience is up close and personal with all of the actors. It's a beautiful show and it's not a very long show, which makes it much more digestible." DiAngelo, who started with the group as an actor in 2011 and is now a board member with Old Towne Hall Theatre, encourages everyone to come out and take in the show. "It's a fun time," he said. "There is great music. It will make you laugh, cry and feel all of the feelings." While Old Towne Theatre is based in North Ridgeville, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" will be performed at the Grafton Ghost Light Theatre. "Our last couple of shows have been performed there and they are extremely gracious hosts," DiAngelo said. "We're essentially a traveling theater." Show times are 7:30 p.m. April 25 and 26; 2 p.m. April 27; 7:30 p.m. May 2 and 3; 2 p.m. May 4 and 7:30 p.m. May 9 and 10. The musical is directed by Marc C. Howard. Olde Towne Hall Theatre has additional shows this summer, including "Elf Jr.," performed by the summer youth group, and "Grease," a new alumni show for college students.
