Elyria man charged following Convenient armed robbery

An Elyria man is in the Lorain County Jail awaiting his initial court appearance after an armed robbery early Monday. Christopher Morris, 35, was arrested after allegedly robbing Convenient Food Mart on West Ridge Road using a "pellet gun," Elyria police said in a news release. Police said that Morris entered the business shortly before 6:50 a.m. on Monday and initially asked for a job application. After a brief conversation with a store employee, Morris allegedly produced what appeared to be a firearm and robbed the store. "The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded cash," the release said. The store employee complied and gave Morris and undisclosed amount of money, and Morris then fled on foot. Elyria police arrived at the store at 6:51 a.m. and established a perimeter. Officers also used the victim's statement and surveillance footage to develop a description of the suspect, and began searching the area with the assistance of the Lorain County Sheriff's K-9 Unit. The release said officers tracked the suspect to the area of 130 Ridge Circle, where further security footage showed a person entering an apartment. Police obtained consent to search the apartment and found multiple people inside, one of whom was Morris. Police said that Morris was identified as the suspect from the robbery and officers found clothing matching what the suspect in the robbery had worn, an amount of cash matching what was taken and a "Glock-style pellet gun believed to have been used in the offense." Morris was charged with aggravated robbery, a felony, and taken to the Lorain County Jail where he remains, awaiting his initial court appearance.
