Two Elyrians charged in 3 Feb. 28 drive-by shootings in northern Mississippi

Two Elyria residents were arrested Feb. 28 in northern Mississippi on charges they committed three drive-by shootings on a morning before sheriff's deputies stopped them, according to multiple media reports. Donald E. Hans II, 40, and Julie Ann Lewis, 48, both of Spruce Street, were arrested and booked into Marshall County, Mississippi, Jail, The South Reporter in Holly Springs, Mississippi, reported Wednesday. Hans was charged with five counts of drive-by shooting, being a felon in possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance enhanced with a weapon while Lewis was charged with five counts of drive-by shooting. The South Reporter reported both were being held without bond. The duo are accused of shooting into three vehicles the morning of Feb. 27, Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson told the media. No one was injured, WREG-TV in Memphis, Tennessee, reported. The first call to 911 said someone in a red pickup shot at a car driven by a woman taking her children to school, WREG-TV reported. The vehicle wasn't hit, The South Reporter reported. A second 911 caller reported finding a bullet hole in their front headlight fired from a vehicle driving north on the same road where the first shooting happened. A third vehicle was shot at by someone in a red pickup as the two vehicles passed each other. Deputies caught up to a red pickup, Hans and Lewis pulled over and were surrounded, according to The South Reporter. Authorities found an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and illegal drugs in the truck, Dickerson told The South Reporter. WREG-TV reported that authorities said both Hans and Lewis were under the influence of drugs when arrested. Investigators also were looking into whether Hans and Lewis were involved in a shooting in Chattanooga, Tennessee, that was being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Hans is not allowed to own or possess guns because he has two prior felony drug possession convictions in Lorain County, one each in 2003 and 2016, according to Common Pleas Court records. Lewis does not appear to have a significant criminal record in Lorain County.
