David 'Junior' Walker

David 'Junior' Walker, 82, and a resident of Oberlin, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Monday, November 18, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born April 13, 1942, in Winfield, Tennessee, to Charlie and Etta Walker (née Ryan), David grew up rooted in faith, family, and hard work, values that defined his life. At the age of 18, Junior left Tennessee and moved to Amherst, seeking opportunity and a new beginning. He ultimately made his home in Oberlin, where he built a life of love and purpose for over 50 years. Junior dedicated 38 years to the Ford Motor Company, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues before retiring in 1996. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Junior's life revolved around his family. He exemplified the virtues of love, loyalty, and selflessness. His greatest joy was in nurturing deep connections with his loved ones, supporting their dreams, and celebrating their accomplishments. A man of unwavering faith, Junior was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church. His faith guided his life, and he generously shared his kindness and wisdom with everyone he met. Junior also cherished being part of his community. He devoted countless hours to coaching and supporting local Little League teams and Hot Stove, where he made a lasting impact on young athletes. He was a loyal fan of Oberlin High School sports, never missing a chance to cheer on his favorite teams. A die-hard Cleveland sports enthusiast, Junior could often be found sharing his passion for the Browns, Guardians, and Cavaliers with family and friends. In his leisure time, Junior found peace and fulfillment in caring for his yard, a reflection of his meticulous nature and pride in his home. His vibrant lawn was a testament to his hard work and attention to detail. Beyond these hobbies, his greatest joy was family gatherings filled with laughter, love, and the cherished memories they created together. Junior is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Walker (née Phillips), with whom he built a life grounded in faith and love. Together, they raised six children, Tracey Re'nee (Bryan) Thomas of Elyria, David R. Walker I of Vermillion, Kenny E. Phillips (Kimberly) of Oberlin, Melissa Arntzen (Timothy) of West Salem, Leslie Kozar (David) of Oberlin, and Todd A. Walker (Dr. Lori Cuadros) of Orlando, Florida. He was a proud grandfather to Jordan Thomas, Lizzy Beard, and Noah Arntzen; and a doting great-grandfather to Laila Thomas. Junior is also survived by his siblings, Bobby Lee Walker, Gary Walker, and Opal Duncan all of Tennessee, and Donna Godbey (Charles) of Kentucky; as well as many extended family members and dear friends. Junior was preceded in death by his grandson, David Ryan Walker II; his siblings, William Walker and Elsie Phillips; and his parents, Charlie and Etta Walker (nee: Ryan). Friends may call Monday, November 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. The Rev. Delyn Phillips, Rev.
