We live about thirty minutes outside of Cleveland but often find ourselves there. Whether catching a game or hanging out with friends, Cleveland has a fun vibe. All it takes is a friend to suggest, "Hey, I'm going to ... want to come?" And I'm all in! As all big cities can be, it can get expensive quickly. Fortunately, you don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy the city. If you are planning a date night or want to go with the family, here are a few things I've done on the cheap.West Side Market: West Side Market is Cleveland's oldest publicly owned market, with the origins of the land dating back to 1840. Today, the market is home to over seventy vendors with a great diversity of food. You'll find meats, fresh vegetables, fresh seafood, baked goods, cheese products, and so much more. This market has been featured on television programs such as Travel Channel and Food Network, and it has been estimated over a million people visit each year. It is free to visit and fun to walk around. Pair this with a cheap lunch spot nearby, and you can have a fun afternoon adventure.The Terminal Tower Observation Deck: The Terminal Tower is one of Cleveland's most iconic and recognizable buildings. This 52-story building was built in the 1920s atop Cleveland's rail station, Cleveland Union Terminal, and was the second-tallest building in the world when it was built. The Terminal Tower's fully enclosed observation deck soars above Cleveland on the 42nd floor. It offers 360-degree views out over Cleveland and Lake Erie. While up there, see if you can spot iconic spots such as Public Square, the sports stadiums, the Flats, and other notable downtown buildings. You can only buy tickets online through Eventbrite, which costs about $6 each after fees. The observation deck is only open on select days in the spring, summer, and early fall.Stroll the town for free: Downtown Cleveland has a lot to see, and with good weather, you can enjoy the big city by just walking around. We often stroll around Public Square to admire the fantastic architecture, visit a small cafe, or grab food from a street vendor. While in Cleveland, we regularly visit East Fourth Street, which often has live music. Whether just walking through or stopping for a small bite to eat for Happy Hour, it's a great place to hang out.Free Museums: Cleveland is a treasure trove of free museums, offering a diverse range of experiences. From The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, The International Women's Air & Space Museum, The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland Education and Learning Center, and The Cleveland Police Museum to the Solider's & Sailor's Monument Museum, there's something for everyone. All of these have different opening times and operating days, so be sure to check out their websites. These museums could be a great add-on as a date night or a family day out. Pack a picnic and enjoy a cheap lunch in the city if you plan a full day out.Playhouse Square: With a wide variety of shows and ticket prices, you can enjoy the theater without a significant cost. I've sat in seats all over the theater, and some prices are as low as $25. Considering the architectural design, there isn't a bad seat in the house. Playhouse Square hosts fabulous shows in their larger theaters, but they also have many delightful plays in their smaller theaters as well. These smaller theaters are cozy, have dynamic prices, and offer great seating options, making every show a great value for your money. For the larger productions, keep an eye on LuckySeat.com. This site allows patrons to enter a digital drawing to buy tickets at exceptional prices. These can be single and double seats that have not yet been sold and offered at a steep discount.
