Elyria man arrested after pointing shotgun at three people after argument

ELYRIA — An Elyria man was arrested Friday afternoon after he allegedly argued with several people and pointed a shotgun in their direction. Alan L. Johnson Jr., 58, Lowell Street, was arrested on three counts of aggravated menacing, all misdemeanors. He was booked into Lorain County Jail at 8 p.m. Friday and ordered held without bond following his arraignment Monday morning in Elyria Municipal Court, according to court records. Elyria police said all available police officers were called to 352 Lowell St. just after 1:30 p.m. Friday for a report that Johnson had pulled a long black gun on another man. Officers found Johnson sitting in a chair in his open garage, and ordered him to surrender. He at first ignored their orders, then walked toward them and surrendered, according to a police report. A loaded black Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun with the safety off was seized by police. Video footage obtained by police showed Johnson arguing with the alleged victims and picking up the shotgun, which he pointed at the others, according to a police report. Johnson told officers he had argued with one of the alleged victims and only armed himself with the shotgun after the victim allegedly pulled a handgun.
