Kids' Day returns to Lorain County Fair

WELLINGTON — The Lorain County Fair's Kids' Day returns this year with activities throughout the fairgrounds on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Since 2018, Kids' Day has offered activities and learning experiences to encourage families to bring their children to the fair, Secretary Charisse Nikel said. "It's been successful and people have liked it," Nikel said. "So we've continued it." This year's activities include a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math tent, activities from the Center of Science and Industry, or COSI, a princess party, ice cream eating contest and bug hotel build. The ice cream eating contest is sponsored by Ohio Dots, and the bug hotel build is sponsored by Reaser Construction. Other Kids' Day sponsors include Akron Children's Hospital, Shaw Farms, Thriving Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, Lorain County Community Action Agency Head Start, Mark Diedrick, Double Flush septic services, Burnett's Septic Services, Lorain County Children and Family First Council and Wrights Catering. Kids' Day will also see a discount on rides for the day, with the unlimited wristbands only $10 from 12-5 p.m. for all rides. Rides this year are from McGinnis Amusements, Nikel said. She said the Fair Board does not know the specific rides the company will bring to Wellington for the week, but the contract stipulates a minimum 11 adult rides and nine kiddie rides. Rides, during Kids' Day and regular fair hours, require tickets, with the required number of tickets posted on each ride. Tickets can be purchased at 24 for $20, or unlimited ride wristbands are $20 from noon to 10 p.m. daily. Rides are closed from 5-6 p.m. daily.
