Shawn R. Hadaway

Shawn R. Hadaway Shawn R. Hadaway passed away Monday, July 29, 2024 at the age of 65, after a seven-year battle with cancer. Born in Elyria, he graduated from Elyria High School, class of 1977, and attended LCCC and Kent State University. Shawn served proudly as a Lorain County Deputy Sheriff for 28 years and was well-respected by those he led as a road patrol sergeant and detective sergeant. He received the Medal of Valor and Purple Heart for sustaining a serious gunshot injury in the line of duty. After retirement, he taught the Law Enforcement Program at LCJVS for several years, followed by employment as an Oberlin College security officer. Married to his high school sweetheart for 43 years, Shawn was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his granddaughters, who he adored, and he enjoyed reading about history, and watching sports. He was an adult altar server at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. Shawn was preceded in death by infant twin sons, Peter and Andrew; and his parents, Jeanne and Arthur Hadaway. He is survived by his wife, Dianne (nee Zapotosky); children, Joseph (Lindsey), and Ava Hadaway-Smith; grandchildren, Natalie, and Macie; his brothers, Larry and Thomas (Barbara); sisters, Sharon Keesee (Larry), and Patricia Gallion; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration-of-life gathering is planned for Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Midway Baptist Church, 41812 Griswold Road in Elyria.
