Planned Parenthood, Reproductive Freedom for All endorse U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown for reelection

Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Reproductive Freedom for All have announced they have endorsed U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Cleveland, for reelection in November. The groups' endorsements came the week of the two-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, which overturned Roe v. Wade by ruling that the U.S. Constitution doesn't guarantee a right to abortion. Both organizations cited Brown's "steadfast commitment to protecting abortion rights," according to the Brown campaign. Brown "stands with the majority of Ohioans who believe women's health care decisions should be between them and their doctors," while his challenger, Republican candidate Bernie Moreno, "supports overturning the will of Ohioans with a national abortion ban and has said he's '100% pro-life with no exceptions,'" according to the Brown campaign. "Planned Parenthood and Reproductive Freedom for All have been at the forefront of our fight to protect Ohio women's healthcare choices, and I am honored to have them by my side," Brown said in a news release. "While my opponent wants to overrule voters with a national abortion ban and has made it clear he's only looking out for himself, I will always support a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions." Brown "has always been a steadfast champion for reproductive rights," said President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund Alexis McGill Johnson. "His opponent would overrule the will of Ohio voters by supporting a national abortion ban with no exceptions. The contrast in this race couldn't be clearer: Sherrod stands with Ohioans and their freedom to control their own bodies, lives and futures while Bernie Moreno wants to be where politicians don't belong." Brown "has been an essential partner and champion of reproductive freedom who we need in the Senate," said Reproductive Freedom for All President Mini Timmaraju. "Sherrod's opponent supports a federal abortion ban that would overrule the will of Ohioans, and could cast the deciding vote to block crucial legislation protecting the right to abortion. We can't let that happen. We're ready to work alongside our 137,000 members in Ohio to make sure Senator Brown can continue to fight for our fundamental rights." According to his campaign, Brown: supported the November Issue 1 campaign to establish abortion rights in the Ohio Constitution. introduced the Women's Health Protection Act of 2023 to enshrine abortion access and restore reproductive health care throughout the country. supported the Right to IVF Act to protect access to fertility treatments, including in-vitro fertilization and the Right to Contraception Act. introduced the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act of 2022 to prevent anti-abortion states from disrupting travel for abortion care.
