Avon Lake police Friday, March 29 7:04 a.m. — Learwood Middle School, Lear Road, menacing. School administrators informed police that a student brought a prohibited item to school. The school took "appropriate action" and officers took a report. Thursday, April 4 2:20 a.m. — Moore Road, operating a vehicle impaired. Steven Weidman, 34, of Moore Road, was cited with misdemeanor DUI charges. 10:15 a.m. — Smuggler's Cove Apartments, Electric Boulevard, suspicious person/warrant service. 11:13 a.m. — Beachwood Avenue, identity theft. A victim reported someone stole their identity. The incident is under investigation. Sunday, April 7 6:32 p.m. — Waterberry Court, lost/found property. A resident found a wallet containing multiple gift cards, cash and a ticket to Walt Disney World inside. There was no identifying information, and a photo of the wallet was posted to Avon Lake Police Department social media to try and identify the owner. 10:27 p.m. — Armour Road and Lake Road, operating a vehicle impaired. Officers investigating a report of a vehicle parked in the middle of the road found the driver asleep behind the wheel. The driver, whose name, age and address were not listed in a police report, was arrested on misdemeanor DUI charges and cited with parking violations. Monday, April 8 2:01 a.m. — Lake Road and Belmar Boulevard, operating a vehicle impaired. Madelyn Viets, 34, of North Ridgeville, was cited with misdemeanor DUI and marked lanes charges. Officers responding to a report of a reckless driver heard from the Sheffield Lake Police Department that a dark four-door car was going about 60 mph eastbound on Lake Road. Viets was stopped, cited, given a personal bond and ordered to appear in Avon Lake Municipal Court on April 10. 3:44 p.m. — Vineyard Road, traffic complaint. A driver in a red Toyota SUV failed to comply with a police officer's order during the Avon Lake eclipse celebration when he refused to stop and turn around on state Route 83. The driver, whose name, age and address were not listed in a police report, was located and cited. 4:52 p.m. — Redwood Boulevard, lost/found property. A resident reported finding a credit card belonging to an unknown person on her property. She turned the card over to police, who put it in evidence for safekeeping. Wednesday, April 10 8:51 a.m. — Electric Boulevard, suspicious activity. A resident reported receiving a suspicious letter in the mail, which he said he believed was connected to the political signs posted in his front yard. A report was taken.
