Commissioners make board appointments for 2024 (UPDATED)

This story was updated to correct an error. The Lorain County Board of Commissioners made numerous appointments to various county boards and commissions at their meeting on Monday. Most of the appointments were for one-year terms. Lorain County Community College Board of Trustees The Board of Commissioners accepted the resignation of former Sheffield Mayor John Hunter from the LCCC Board of Trustees. Ben Fligner was then re-appointed to the board effective Jan. 29 through March 23, 2025, filling Hunter's unexpired term. Commissioners also appointed Ben Norton to the LCCC board for a term of five years, effective Jan. 29, 2024, through Jan. 29, 2029. Lorain County Airport Advisory Board John Piwinski was added to the board for a one-year term. Deputy County Administrator Karen Perkins, Daniel J. Gross, Herb de la Porte, Tom Dus, Rick Bodeker, Tom Patton, Timothy Pettet and George Henning were reappointed to the board. Black River Remedial Action Plan Coordinating Committee Commissioner Jeff Riddell was reappointed to the board with John Gall, his administrative assistant, named an alternate member. County Commissioners Association of Ohio Riddell was named the board's representative to the CCAO, Commissioner David Moore his alternate. CCAO Service Cooperation Natural Gas Program Board of Participants Perkins was reappointed to the board. Lorain County Law Library Board of Trustees County Budget Director K.C. Saunders was reappointed to the board through the end of 2028. Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation Moore was reappointed to the board. Lorain County Community Development Director Rob Duncan was named his alternate to LEEDCo. Keep Lorain County Beautiful Members Teresa Gills, Max Schaefer, Ruby Beil, Bill Oliver and Jennifer Fenderbosch were reappointed. Lorain County Planning Commission David Gillock, Bernie Nirode, Howard "Butch" Born, Dick Heidecker, Lorain County Convention & Visitors Bureau Director Garry Gibbs and Richard Knechtges were reappointed through the end of 2026, and Grafton Township Trustee Carl Wesemeyer was appointed for a one-year term through the end of 2024. Gall, Perkins, Matt Spears — Commissioner Michelle Hung's administrative assistant and a Republican candidate for Lorain County commissioner in the 2024 primary — Travis Tomlinson and Grafton Township Trustee Christie Homer Miller were named as alternates for one-year terms. Lorain County Port Authority Gillock and Amy Richards were reappointed to the port authority board of directors through the end of 2027. Lorain County Storm Water Management District Storm Water Advisory Committee John Born and Rick Carlson were reappointed through the end of 2027. United Way Food Shelter Hung was reappointed, and Spears named her alternate. Workforce Development Board Shauna Matelski and Mark Goffinet were appointed, and members Tim King and Sha-Niqua Matthews reappointed, all through the end of 2027. Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency Moore, Riddell, Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley, Elyria Mayor Kevin Brubaker and Columbia Township Trustee Mark Cunningham were reappointed to the NOACA board as representatives from Lorain County. Amherst Township Trustee Neil Lynch was named an alternate for Cunningham, Patrick Thomas will serve as Moore's alternate, Gall as Riddell's alternate, and two Lorain County mayors — one member and an alternate to be determined — are yet to be named. Andrew Lipian, an economic development coordinator for Lorain County and Elyria City Council member, I-Ward 1, was reappointed to the NOACA Emerging Leaders Advisory Committee. Lorain County Metro Parks Director Jim Ziemnik and Sara Tillie, program manager with Lorain County Public Health, were reappointed to the NOACA Bike Pedestrian Advisory Council. Riddell was named member and Kelly Grospitch, an economic development specialist for Lorain County, his alternate on the NOACA Brownfield Steering Committee. Riddell was reappointed, with Lipian his alternate, to the NOACA Strategy Committee. Riddell was reappointed as a member, with Gall his alternate, to the NOACA Economic Development Subcommittee. Duncan also was reappointed to the subcommittee, with Marty Gallagher — a Republican candidate for commissioner in the 2024 primary — named Duncan's alternate.
