Coat giveaway honors 24-year-old killed at Midview Crossing

Lori Flanigan stood in a packed Marcel Hall while people rushed around her, getting coats and haircuts, temporary tattoos and face-painting. The coat giveaway was in memory of Flanigan's son, Jordan Flanigan, 24, who was shot and killed at Midview Crossing apartments on Oct. 27, 2022. Flanigan started organizing the event in June, selling screen-printed T-shirts to raise $1,200 in two months. She said the community rallied around to help out, with donors pitching in another $200 and donating coats for the effort. Flanigan estimated she collected about 300 coats, from children's to adult sizes. She organized the event in memory of her son, who loved children — from his nieces and nephews to his daughter. Henry C. Spooner, 21, was indicted in January on three counts of murder with specifications, two counts of felonious assault, having weapons under disability, tampering with evidence and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle in connection with Jordan Flanigan's death. His trial will start in January, according to the Lorain County Common Pleas docket. Brothers Antwon Nathanuel President, 22, and Nathanuel Antwon President, 15, were also charged in connection with Jordan Flanigan's death. Antwon President was charged with tampering with evidence and discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premise. Nathanuel President was charged with two counts of felonious assault. Antwon President's next pretrial is slated for Nov. 3, according to the Lorain County Common Pleas docket. "These kids don't understand that you're not just taking that person's life, you're destroying two families, not just one," Lori Flanigan said.
