Giovanna Scaletta-Bremke announces campaign for Lorain County Common Pleas judge

Attorney Giovanna Scaletta-Bremke announced her candidacy for Lorain County Common Pleas judge Monday. Scaletta-Bremke, 34, is seeking the seat held by Judge John Miraldi. She will be running as a Republican in the March primary. The current president of the Lorain County Bar Association and a member of its Ethics & Grievance and Bar Admissions committees, Scaletta-Bremke has argued multiple cases before the Ohio Supreme Court, has been qualified to testify and has testified as a legal expert in Lorain County, and has experience practicing law in every court in Lorain County, according to a news release announcing her candidacy. Scaletta-Bremke said she has the legal knowledge, experience, and integrity that it takes to be a fair and dedicated judge, having had experience on the bench serving as a magistrate in the Elyria Municipal Court. "In addition to being an attorney, I am a small business owner and landlord, and I understand the frustrations and challenges that hardworking individuals face in navigating the legal system and the impact the judicial system has on their lives, placing me in a unique position to make the courts more efficient for the attorneys and public," she said. A lifelong Lorain County resident, Scaletta-Bremke was raised by her parents, Joe and Leslie Scaletta, in Avon. She married her high school sweetheart Myles Bremke after law school and together the couple has three sons and live on a farm in Henrietta Township where they raise livestock. Scaletta-Bremke said she "takes pride in providing legal advice to everyday individuals, families and local small businesses through their successes and challenges." She also advocates for those with addiction and mental illness, working in the Lorain County Recovery Court in Miraldi's courtroom, as a board member of Let's Get Real Inc. and the Lorain-Medina Community Based Correctional Facility, and as a member of the LorainCounty Stepping Up Initiative. Scaletta-Bremke said she has worked with these organizations to help turn criminal defendants into productive citizens who have jobs and are actively engaged with their families. "I want to use my knowledge and experience in the law to reduce the cycle of repeat offenders and build a safer Lorain County for my children and yours," she said. If elected, Scaletta-Bremke would become the third woman elected to the common pleas bench "and would offer a different political affiliation than those currently serving," she said. Scaletta-Bremke said she looks forward to meeting members of the community while she campaigns over the next year. Her campaign will begin with a chili kick-off event at the Amherst Eagles, 1161 Milan Ave. in Amherst, from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 15.
