Lorain man charged with attempted murder in Pennsylvania stabbing

A Lorain man was arrested in Pennsylvania on Monday, accused of stabbing another man at a New Castle housing complex. Dewayne Banbury, 24, who has an address of G Street in Lorain listed in court records, is charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide and aggravated assault, according to the New Castle Police Department. Police said Banbury was being held in Lawrence County Jail on a $250,000 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for April 19, according to media reports. According to New Castle police and media reports, officers responded to the Big Run Housing Complex on South Jefferson Street for a report of a stabbing. A 30-year-old man had been stabbed multiple times and told officers Banbury was the one who attacked him. The man "told police Banbury came at him over a dispute over a woman, and they were fighting in the living room," New Castle News reported in a story posted online Tuesday. Banbury left, which is when the man realized he'd been stabbed, the newspaper reported. The victim was flown to Mercy Health's St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown with three or four knife wounds in the abdomen and leg, New Castle News reported. The newspaper reported that police officers saw Banbury running several blocks away and that he hid in the basement of an abandoned furniture store. In their Facebook post, New Castle police said they and Lawrence County sheriff's deputies surrounded the building and brought in a K-9. Banbury surrendered when he heard police were going to send the K-9 into the building after him, they said. Police said Banbury was interviewed by detectives, and admitted fighting with the victim and having a knife during the fight.
