Debra Nagel

Debra Nagel (nee Baluh), 64, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer for over 27 years. She was born October 28, 1958 in Elyria and was a lifelong resident until she was married to her beloved husband Tom, and moved to Westlake, where they made their home for the last 29 years. She graduated in 1985 with her Registered Nursing degree from LCCC. After graduating, she found her place in nursing at University Hospitals Elyria (formerly Elyria Memorial Hospital), where she cared for patients for 33 years. Debra was best known for her sense of humor, big laugh, and her incredible heart. Survivors include her husband, Tom; daughter, Katlyn; her twin brother, Dennis Baluh (Karen) and their sons, Stephen, Kyle and Douglas; sister, Judith Platz (Frank). She is also survived by her stepsons, Tommy Nagel (Meredith), their daughter Nova; Brian Nagel (Jessyca), their daughters, Brooklynn, Savannah, and son Forest, and stepmother, Patricia Baluh. Debra is also survived by Maryann Violand (Greg) in Westlake, Peggy Nagel in Westlake, John Nagel (Linda) and Loretta Rodriguez (Louis) in Texas, Terri Hamm (Jerry) in North Carolina, and many more loving nieces and nephews. Debra was preceded in death by her father, William Baluh; mother, Mary Margaret Baluh (Coyne); sister, Patricia Forbush (Baluh) and nephew, Brian Baluh. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 at St. Jude's Catholic Church, 590 Poplar Street in Elyria. The family will receive friends and family at 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. Father Joseph Scalco, CSJ, will be the Celebrant. A reception will be held after Mass at the Knights of Columbus, 118 Kipling Street, Elyria from 1 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who are able donate to the American Cancer Society.
