Captain John 'Jack' Thomas Duff

Captain John 'Jack' Thomas Duff passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2023, he was 94, and lived a great life. Jack was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, to his parents, James and Dorothy (nee Flint). He attended school until the age of 16 when he went to work on the river boats. At 17, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy, to serve his Country in WWII, as an Aviation Boatswain Mate on an escort carrier. After the service he earned his diploma. He was a United States Merchant Marine Officer with over 30 years of service working his way from deckhand to Mate, and then Captain. Following his time on the water, Jack was a Vice President of the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots until his retirement. He was a member of Bay Presbyterian Church, and American Legion Post 211. He is survived by his wife, Marianne (nee Scotillo), they celebrated their 60th anniversary last summer; his son, Jack Duff II (Kari); his beloved grandchildren, who knew him as 'Pap', Avri, Hunter, and Molli, and his brother, Bill Duff (Terri). Jack was a wonderful friend and uncle to many, he was the very best husband, father, and grandfather, he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his dear parents, and siblings, Betty Rowe and James Duff. A public visitation will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Rd., Avon Lake, OH 44012, 440-933-3202. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Followed by a 1:30 p.m. burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, OH 44273, (please meet at the cemetery).
