Elyria blotter Tuesday, Oct. 11 6:58 a.m. — Erie Street, drug possession. Crystal Vitovitz, 34, of Fairlawn Avenue, was arrested on felony methamphetamine and heroin possession charges and a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession charge. Officers on a welfare check found Vitovitz in a known drug house in the 100 block of Erie Street. There were small amounts of meth and heroin in plain view next to the bed where she was found, along with items usually used to ingest illegal drugs. Vitovitz was taken to the Lorain County Jail. During the trip, she intentionally attempted to gag and vomit in the back of a patrol car, but checked out OK with medical staff at the jail. 7:51 a.m. — Blaine Street, drug possession. Kyle Kight, 30, of Connecticut Drive, was arrested on a felony drug possession charge, felony warrant through the Lorain County Sheriff's Office, and on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. An officer stopped Kight's 1995 GMC truck after running his plates and learning of the felony warrant. Kight was found in the backyard of a house on Blaine Street with a crack pipe, torch lighter and drug residue in his pockets. Three more drug pipes were found in the car and seized as evidence. Kight was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 11:06 a.m. — Lafayette Street, domestic violence. Kristi Greenlief, 39, and Edward Egan, 37, both of Lafayette Street, were arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and assault charges. Greenlief said Egan got angry she was "wasting water" while showering and that she pushed him out of the bathroom where he grabbed her by the neck, pushed her against a wall and choked her, leaving an abrasion. Egan admitted putting his hands around his wife's neck but only after Greenlief threw bottles of shampoo at him, hitting him in the head and leaving a scratch on his arm. Both were taken to the Lorain County Jail. 3:17 p.m. — Arlington Suites, Griswold Road, child endangering. Emily Burnett, 37, of Griswold Road, was arrested on two counts of child endangering, both misdemeanors. A Lorain County Children Services worker called police to assist them in taking emergency custody of two children from Burnett, who had never sent them to school and left them alone in a motel room. The children had poor hygiene and officers were told they couldn't read or write. Upon her return, Burnett said she left the children with a friend but refused to tell an LCCS caseworker and police officers where she had gone or what she was doing. A former resident of Montana, Burnett was arrested and taken to the Lorain County Jail. The children were taken into emergency custody. 6:16 p.m. — Elyria Catholic High School, menacing. Allison Pope, 41, of Elma Drive, was arrested on a misdemeanor menacing charge. Pope was involved in a domestic disturbance with her boyfriend of 10 years after he let a pregnant 32-year-old female friend move into the house until her boyfriend is released from jail. Pope became upset and police were called to her residence three times in a single day — the third time after she threatened to "beat the f***" out of the pregnant friend. Pope was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 10:48 p.m. — Lorain Boulevard and state Route 113, drug possession. Nychel Kerlin, 35, of Delaware Avenue, was arrested on a felony fentanyl possession charge and a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge. Kerlin's 2003 Cadillac Escalade was found out of gas in the southbound lane of Lorain Boulevard and Kerlin was found walking to a nearby gas station with a gas can. Kerlin's license was suspended and while speaking with an officer a plastic baggie with 0.6 grams of fentanyl and 1.2 grams of marijuana in it fell from her jacket pocket. She tried to hide the baggie with her foot but an officer noticed, arrested her and took her to the Lorain County Jail. 11:18 P.M. — Mussey Avenue and West Avenue, failure to comply. Arroyia Craighead, 50, of Parkview Court, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of failure to comply, DUI, obstructing official business, failure to disclose personal information, driving under suspension, failure to obey marked, lanes, a traffic signal violation, possession of marijuana, and a contempt of court warrant through Elyria Municipal Court. Officers stopped Craighead's Mercedes Benz E-350 for going less than the posted 35 mph speed limit and found him intoxicated behind the wheel. There was more than 9 grams of marijuana in the car and Craighead had 30 open suspensions on his license. He refused sobriety and chemical tests and was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Wednesday, Oct. 12 12:45 p.m. — Cleveland Street, stolen vehicle. Elizabeth Ellis, 61, of Portia Court, was arrested on a felony theft charge. Ellis was found driving a 2020 Hyundai Elantra in North Ridgeville that had been reported stolen from Enterprise Rent-A-Car on Cleveland Street in Elyria. Ellis rented the car on Aug. 11 and was supposed to return it by Aug. 20. The car was towed and Ellis taken to the Lorain County Jail. 2:56 p.m. — Speedway, Griswold Road, drug investigation. Steven Bughman, 35, of Wellington, was arrested on felony tampering with evidence and cocaine possession charges and a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charge. Baughman was "nodding out" in front of the store and suspected of being under the influence of drugs. When officers approached Baughman threw a plastic bag with 1.4 grams of suspected cocaine and a digital scale inside toward a nearby bush. LifeCare was called to check on Baughman's medical condition and once cleared, he was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 5:53 p.m. — Walmart, domestic violence. Jamal Montgomery, 41, of Furnace Street, was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and menacing charges. Montgomery was allegedly yelling about a gun in the parking lot. Officers learned he had seen the mother of his two children, her husband, and his own teen daughter inside the store and began yelling at them. The women said there was a long history of abuse by Montgomery against them, and he threatened to assault the two adults while his daughter hid in the store. Montgomery was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 11:32 p.m. — Middle Avenue, obstructing. Robert Martin, 43, of East Avenue, was arrested on a misdemeanor obstructing charge and a felony warrant for burglary through the Lorain County Sheriff's Office. Martin was reportedly knocking on his ex-girlfriend's door a year after their relationship ended, and when police detained him he gave them a fake name. His ex-girlfriend identified him, and after his identity was confirmed with an Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles photo, Martin was taken to the Lorain County Jail. While he was being searched during booking at the jail, Martin was found with a bag of 55 grams of unknown white powder in his pants. The powder was seized and sent for testing. Thursday, Oct. 13 12:30 a.m. — Lake Avenue and High Street, drug possession. Brenden Garrey, 30, of Lorain, was arrested on a felony drug possession charge, a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge, and a misdemeanor traffic violation. An officer stopped Garrey's Nissan for driving without it's lights on after dark. There was 2.6 grams of marijuana and an unknown blue pill suspected to be amphetamines in plain view on his front passenger seat, and Garrey was arrested and taken to the Lorain County Jail. 2:12 p.m. — Olive Garden, West River Road North, operating a vehicle impaired. Amber Rollins, 34, of Bath Street, was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge. Officers checking on a woman nodding off behind the wheel of a Ford SUV found Rollins in the parking lot of Target on Market Drive. She smelled of alcohol, appeared intoxicated and had urinated on herself. Rollins failed three sobriety tests and there was an open bottle of vodka under the driver's seat. She couldn't provide a breath sample, was booked and released to a sober person. 6:31 p.m. — Rally's, Cleveland Street, assault. Andrew Bogle, 33, of Chestnut Ridge Road, was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge. Bogle argued with a 39-year-old Elyria man over a parking spot at the restaurant and punched him in the face. The incident was caught on video. Bogle was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 11:20 p.m. — West River Road North, domestic violence. Tyler Tubbs, 22, of West River Road North, was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and assault charges. A 21-year-old woman said Tubbs came home drunk and the two argued about him moving out of the apartment. He strangled her with one hand, got in her face, and she had a bloody nose even though she denied Tubbs hit her. Tubbs was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Friday, Oct. 14 7:37 p.m. — Advance Auto Parts, East Broad Street, drug investigation. Jim Fields, 27, of Park Meadow Drive, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct by intoxication. A witness saw Fields having an overdose in a Mazda sedan and when police arrived, he ran into the auto parts store. Officers pointed a Taser device at him, took him into custody and LifeCare provided Fields with naloxone, which halted his overdose. Drug paraphernalia was found in Fields' pockets, but he denied using drugs and lied to officers, giving them his brother's birthdate. More drug paraphernalia was found in the car, and Fields cited and released for medical care. Saturday, Oct. 15 1:55 a.m. — West Avenue and Second Street, failure to comply. Juan Cobarrubias-Valdivia, 22, of Fourth Street, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of DUI, failure to comply and a stop sign violation. Officers tried to stop Cobarubbias-Valdivia's 2010 Ford Mustang for running a stop sign at Middle Avenue and Second Street but he refused to stop the car until it reached the 200 block of Fourth Street. Cobarubbias-Valdivia smelled of alcohol, told officers he wasn't in the country legally and there was an empty bottle of beer on the passenger seat of the car. The car was towed and Cobarubbias-Valdivia taken to the Lorain County Jail. The U.S. Border Patrol was called to speak with him about his immigration status. 11:10 a.m. — 13th Street, domestic violence. Kennedy Harper and Kayla Bowens, both 22 and both of 13th Street, were arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and assault charges. Harper said Bowens assaulted her over the ownership of an iPhone 11, and had a bruise above her eye. Bowens told officers Harper had assaulted her while moving out, and that she had an injury above her left eye. Both told police their relationship was abusive, and they fought the previous day in the front yard. A witness confirmed this to police, and both were arrested and taken to the Lorain County Jail. 1:09 p.m. — Walmart, theft. Kilvin Portis Jr., 30, and Joan Ayala Diaz, 28, both of Bohannon Court, were cited with misdemeanor theft charges. Store employees saw Portis and Diaz try to leave the store without paying for $251.67 worth of merchandise. They were cited and released on scene with a summons to appear in Elyria Municipal Court. 4:09 p.m. — Broad Street and East Avenue, weapons violations. Brendon Thompson, 23, of Second Street, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, and expired registration. Thompson's Nissan was seen revving its engine at high RPMs in a parking lot east of downtown and was stopped for having both a loud exhaust and a registration that expired in July 2020. Thompson appeared panicky and admitted to an officer he had a friend's gun in the car. A loaded black and silver .380 Bersa handgun was found in the glove box along with a loaded spare magazine. Thompson's car was impounded and he was cited and released at the scene. 10:57 p.m. — Walmart, theft. Danielle Wilson, 44, of Columbia Township, was arrested on a misdemeanor theft charge and a warrant for contempt of court through the North Ridgeville Police Department. For two hours inside the store, Wilson folded up clothing and stuffed it inside other clothing items and double-hung items on hangers to conceal the number of items she was buying. She paid $141.05 for the merchandise but didn't pay for another $667.74 worth of items she tried to hide. Wilson was taken to the Lorain County Jail.Monday, Oct. 17 12:32 a.m. — Virginia Avenue, weapons violations. Andre Jones, 48, of Virginia Avenue, was arrested on felony charges of having weapons under disability and improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, as well as misdemeanor charges of using weapons while intoxicated and DUI. Jones' Chrysler was stopped after a witness told police he had assaulted someone. Jones was intoxicated behind the wheel and had a loaded 9mm Walther PPS handgun stuffed in his right pant leg. Jones refused chemical tests and had two prior DUI convictions, one each in 2005 and 1997. He was taken to the Lorain County Jail.
