Nord Family Foundation awards $3,644,900 in grants locally, 3 other states

The Nord Family Foundation on Friday announced a list of nonprofit organizations in the fields of arts & culture, civic affairs, education, and health and social services that were awarded a total of $3,644,900 in grants. The grants totaling $3,610,800 were announced at the foundation's Board of Trustees meeting on Oct. 22. They will be disbursed in Lorain, Cuyahoga and Summit counties, as well as Colorado, New York and South Carolina. Twenty-one other actions totaling $34,100 were also ratified, the foundation announced in a news release. The Nord Family Foundation is a successor to a charitable trust established by Walter G. Nord in 1952. The predecessor organization contributed more than $12 million to a variety of charitable causes between 1953 and 1988, primarily in Lorain County. The Nord Family Foundation has contributed more than $153 million to nonprofit organizations in northern Ohio and select geographic areas of family interest. The foundation only accepts grant applications online, accessible through the application portal on its website. The Board of Trustees will meet again in February, and the next deadline for online grant applications is Dec. 1.
