Police: Man killed by Lorain police officer threatened officers, resident

Updated 5:48 p.m. LORAIN — Lorain police shot and killed a man on Meister Road Friday morning. Christopher Boggess, 49, of Lorain, was shot by police after allegedly pointing a gun at officers in the driveway of an apartment leasing office. He was transported to Mercy Health - Lorain with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the hospital, according to a department news release. Police said Boggess also threatened them a day prior when retrieving reports from the records department at police headquarters. He also reportedly fired a round on Meister Road near Collins Drive at around 8:46 a.m. Friday, and pointed a gun at a resident outside of Lorain City Hall less than 10 minutes later. "This is a tragedy for all involved," Lorain Police Chief Jim McCann said in a statement. "We understand and appreciate the public's concern whenever an officer is faced with the difficult, split-second decision to defend himself and others against an armed suspect. Lorain Police officers work hard every day to protect the public and stop crime. There are times when an officer is faced with no other option but to use deadly force. We will provide more information to the public as soon as it's confirmed." The Lorain County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation and will forward its findings to the Lorain County Prosecutor's Office for review. The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, per department policy. *** Previous reporting The Lorain County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting involving a Lorain police officer. Sheriff's deputies were called in at the request of Lorain police following a shooting Friday morning near 2604 Meister Road, the leasing office for Evergreen Village townhomes. Deputies and the county crime scene unit are on the scene, and the home has been taped off. Evidence markers are scattered across the yard. Lorain police Lt.
