Avon police Thursday, Aug. 18 10:10 a.m. — Technifab Plant 4, Chester Industrial Parkway, theft. The plant manager reported someone stole two catalytic converters off one of his white 2015 Ford F-250 pickup trucks with a power tool. The theft was discovered at 9:30 a.m. and the truck had been running fine the day before. 4:54 p.m. — Stoney Ridge Road, operating a vehicle impaired. James Snyder Jr., 53, of Avon, was arrested on misdemeanor DUI, hit-skip and following too closely charges. A 65-year-old Avon woman called police and reported another car rear-ended her 2019 Subaru Outback Sport. She followed the gray 1995 Chevrolet Lumina that hit her to Halstead Lane off Stoney Ridge Road and blocked it until officers arrived. Snyder, who was allegedly impaired behind the wheel of the Lumina, was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Saturday, Aug. 20 3:08 p.m. — Costco, Detroit Road, theft. Joseph Dohar, 57, of Middleburg Heights, was arrested on a felony theft warrant, and misdemeanor theft and leaving a vehicle unattended charges. A Costco employee reportedly recognized Dohar as an alleged suspect in previous thefts from the store. He was taken into custody on a warrant and allegedly had a stolen Orbi WiFi booster worth $550 in his cart. Dohar reportedly said he "forgot" to pay for the item in the self-checkout lanes even after he paid for $116 worth of other merchandise. His car reportedly was parked in a fire lane directly in front of the store with the keys inside and impounded. Dohar was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 11:50 p.m. — Interstate 90 and Center Road, operating a vehicle impaired. Jaime Gallagher, 28, of Lorain, was arrested on a felony illegal conveyance charge, misdemeanor DUI and menacing charges and a misdemeanor traffic control signal violation. An officer reportedly stopped Gallagher's brown 2000 Toyota Corolla for allegedly speeding and nearly colliding with another car. Gallagher allegedly smelled of alcohol and marijuana, and reportedly said he was driving from an Avon Lake bar to pick up his girlfriend. Gallagher allegedly got aggressive with the office, threatened to "beat the (expletive) out of" him and his children but was outnumbered by officers three to one. Gallagher allegedly later dropped marijuana in the police cruiser and tried to eat some of it along with the plastic bag it was in. He also allegedly threatened to spit on officers. A urine sample was taken and Gallagher was transported to the Lorain County Jail. Sunday, Aug. 21 3:51 p.m. — Best Buy, Center Road, theft. Angela Milton, 24, and Maijii Milton, 22, all of Detroit, were arrested on one count each of possession of criminal tools and receiving stolen property, all felonies, and Delmar Williams, 28, also of Detroit, arrested on felony possession of criminal tools, receiving stolen property and identity fraud charges, and misdemeanor obstruction and falsification charges. Officers reportedly responded after a 34-year-old Elyria woman said someone stole the catalytic converter off her 2003 Chevrolet Venture in the Best Buy parking lot. Officers reportedly identified the suspects' vehicle as a blue 2021 Toyota RAV4 and found it in the parking lot of Lowe's. Williams allegedly ran from police but was caught, and he and the Miltons were taken into custody. Saturday, Aug. 27 3:06 p.m. — Avon Oaks Country Club, Detroit Road, theft. A 35-year-old Avon man reported someone stole his wallet containing $100 cash, his credit and debit cards and left it in another member's vehicle in the parking lot. The suspect then used his credit card to buy $11,534.40 worth of merchandise at the Sachs Fifth Avenue store in Beechwood. The victim canceled his cards and made a police report. 3:53 p.m. — Meijer, Nagel Road, theft. Sherrie Swingler and Sonnyta Rudolph, both 44 and both of Elyria, were arrested on misdemeanor theft charges. The women allegedly shoplifted a total of $34.53 worth of Powerade, cookies, candy, cereal, noodle soup, crackers and snack cakes, with Swingler allegedly "skip-scanning" items at the self-checkout while Rudolph allegedly took two pieces of candy off the shelf and never paid for them. They were banned from Meijer, arrested, booked, cited and released to family members at the Avon Police Department. Monday, Aug. 29 4:32 p.m. — Cabelas, Chester Road, theft. Zachary Nerad, 18, of Lorain, was arrested on a misdemeanor theft charge. Cabelas managers reportedly said Nerad, an employee, had been allegedly bragging to other employees about stealing from the store. He was allegedly caught on store surveillance video from Aug. 24 stealing a life jacket, paddle/oar, a scale used to weigh fish, soft baits and Whopper Plopper fishing lures from the store. Those items were worth $101.97, though Nerad allegedly told police he had stolen possibly as much as $800 in merchandise while working there. He reportedly wrote in a statement that he did it "out of spite due to the way he was being treated by other employees." Nerad was banned from the store, booked, released on bond and ordered to appear in Avon Lake Municipal Court on Sept. 6. 6:45 p.m. — Shakespeare Lane, operating a vehicle impaired. Thomas Algotson, 26, of Avon, was arrested on misdemeanor DUI charges. Dispatchers received a call about an intoxicated man who could barely stand and had a dog with him getting into a blue 1999 Ford Ranger then driving eastbound on Detroit Road. The truck was reportedly found at Schwartz Park, Algotson allegedly was found to be impaired and he was arrested, booked and released to a sober person with orders to appear in Avon Lake Municipal Court on Sept. 1.
