100 Women Who Care About Lorain County gives more than $8,000 to Good Knights

The organization 100 Women Who Care About Lorain County has selected Good Knights of Lorain County as this quarter's nonprofit recipient of more than $8,100 in donations. "Representing the awesome group of women who generously support 100 Women Who Care About Lorain County, we are so pleased to give these funds to Good Knights," said Sue Bowers, one of the founding members of 100 Women Who Care About Lorain County. "Roger Dorsey leads quite a network of volunteers who build and supply beds for children in Lorain County. Their mantra, 'Every child deserves a good night,' certainly pulled the heartstrings of our women. What a great organization for Lorain County!" "Being selected by the 100 Women Who Care is a tremendous honor for Good Knights, and it shows the compassion these women have for the nonprofits that are serving Lorain County and its residents," Good Knights President and Executive Director Roger Dorsey said. "Without these women and others like them Good Knights would not be able to provide beds to the children in Lorain County." After COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, requests for beds have been "flooding in," according to Good Knights. The organization delivered 384 beds to children in need in the past year and is on track to more than double that to over 800 beds this year. 100 Women Who Care About Lorain County was founded in August 2010 by Lorain County friends Libby Thuning, Sue Bowers, Marcia Miller and Nancy Sullivan as an alternative to their usual Christmas gift exchange. They joined forces to create a new group to support the local nonprofit organizations serving Lorain County and give back to the communities in which they live. Currently, there are 180 members in the organization. With at least 100 women or groups of women giving their quarterly $100 donations, the organization is able to give $10,000 or more at one time, making a large impact on chosen nonprofit organizations and the community. Since 2010, it has donated more than $443,700.
