Elyria police Friday, July 8 9:44 p.m. — Motel 9, Lorain Boulevard, domestic violence. Nick Giordano, 45, of Lorain, was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and assault charges. Giordano allegedly strangled his 36-year-old girlfriend, shoved her into a wall, grabbed her by the arm, shoved her to the ground, punched and smacked her in the face after she confronted him about cheating on her. Giordano was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Saturday, July 9 2:10 a.m. — West River Road North, operating a vehicle impaired. Michael Starks Jr., 38, of Adams Street, was arrested on a felony DUI charge, and misdemeanor charges of refusal to submit to chemical test, expired plates, and reasonable control. Officers responding to a report of a man honking his car horn and dancing in the car reportedly saw a black Ford Escape with Starks behind the wheel parked in a driveway listening to loud music and singing. Starks reportedly appeared intoxicated, staggered and stumbled out of the car and rambled in response to officers' questions. The front of the SUV was heavily damaged and it was leaking oil onto the driveway. Starks reportedly said he was unsure what happened. He reportedly refused all sobriety, breath and chemical tests and was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Starks has four DUI convictions since November 2007. 3:51 a.m. — Barbara Street, violating a protection order. Jaime Ortiz, 19, of Lorain, and Jazzmyn Evans, 21, of Barbara Street, were arrested on misdemeanor protection order violation charges, while Ortiz also was charged with obstructing official business, a misdemeanor. Officers reportedly heard Ortiz and Evans arguing inside their residence after a domestic disturbance was reported. Evans allegedly refused to open the door for officers and denied Ortiz was there, so a sergeant reportedly kicked the door in and found Ortiz hiding in the corner of an upstairs closet. Ortiz is not allowed to have contact with Evans as a result of a protection order in Elyria Municipal Court in February. Evans allegedly was uncooperative with police and swore at them. Both were taken to the Lorain County Jail. 7:12 a.m. — Xavier Street, violating a protection order. Dwayne Martineau, 42, of Xavier Street, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor protection order violation. Martineau allegedly made three phone calls to his wife, 41, who had a protection order against him. Officers reportedly found Martineau's truck in an alley off Lake Avenue. Martineau allegedly admitted "it was an accident" and he didn't mean to call her but to call her father instead. He was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Martineau had been arrested by Elyria police on July 1 for allegedly slapping his wife, threatening to kill her and her parents. 10:16 a.m. — Barbara Street, domestic violence. Damion Denn, 21, of Barbara Street, was arrested on a felony domestic violence charge and misdemeanor assault and unlawful restraint charges. Denn allegedly hit his girlfriend, a 19-year-old Elyria woman and the mother of his two children, in the face with a diaper after an argument, pushed her into a wall, threw her on a bed and attempted to strangle her. Witnesses also reportedly said he was holding a shotgun while arguing with her on the front lawn. He allegedly left the scene in a red car but was found in a nearby parking lot and arrest. A 12-gauge pump shotgun also was found in the house. Denn, who was convicted of domestic violence in Elyria Municipal Court in 2020, was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Lorain County Children Services also was notified. 5:36 p.m. — Brandston Avenue, violating a protection order. Jessica Neuschaefer, 44, of Brandston Avenue, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of violating a protection order. Neuschaefer's neighbor, a 43-year-old woman, had a protection order against her but reportedly told police Neuschaefer threatened to kill the neighbor's dog and then the neighbor, and called her boyfriend to come over and assault the neighbor. A portion of the incident reportedly was caught on video by the victim's daughter. Neuschaefer was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 11:06 p.m. — State Route 57 and East Broad Street, operating a vehicle impaired. Martin Madeja, 31, of Bedford, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of DUI and assured clear distance ahead. Officers investigating a crash reportedly found Madeja intoxicated at the wheel of a black Chevrolet Silverado that had rear-ended another vehicle. Madeja allegedly admitted drinking five beers at a wedding but couldn't remember where the wedding was held. He reportedly failed sobriety test due, telling officers he had two bad ankles. Madeja reportedly refused a breath test and was released to a sober person after booking. Sunday, July 10 1:04 p.m. — Glenwood Street, domestic violence. Salvatore Stazzone, 76, of Glenwood Street, was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and assault charges. Stazzone's former girlfriend, a 58-year-old Elyria woman, reportedly said he shoved her down with both hands, got on top of her and hit her with a drill. She reported a prior neck injury and broken tailbone had been aggravated and was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center by LifeCare. Stazzone was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 2:42 p.m. — Dollar General, West Ridge Road, theft. Christina Atkinson, 27, of Lorain, was arrested on a felony identity theft charge and misdemeanor theft and obstructing charges. Atkinson reportedly was stopped while walking to her car after the store reported a theft and handed over $77.30 worth of stolen merchandise she allegedly had put in her purse and a pair of plastic-wrapped sunglasses she had hidden in her underwear. Atkinson allegedly gave officers a fake name and date of birth, but Lorain County Jail corrections officers recognized her during the booking process. 5:43 p.m. — West River Road North, drug possession. Ali Young, 28, of Lorain, was issued a summons to appear in court on a felony drug possession charge and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charges. Officers reportedly stopped a white Acura SUV for not having a license plate and learned Young was a passenger. Another passenger reportedly said items in the car including a burnt metal cap, cotton and hypodermic needles that tested positive for fentanyl belonged to Young. Hospitalized at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for a knee injury, Young was cited and released for medical treatment. The Acura's driver, 38-year-old Mitchell Seabold Jr. of Akron, was cited with driving under suspension, improper display of license plates, having an expired registration and released. 6:49 p.m. — East Bridge Street, warrant service. J.R. Ewing Flowers, 42, of East Bridge Street, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a felony vandalism charge. Reportedly yelling obscenities and racial slurs while being taken into custody, he was transported to the Lorain County Jail. Monday, July 11 1:10 a.m. — 15th Street and West Avenue, domestic violence. Paul Buell Jr., 44, of Hodge Court, was arrested on a felony domestic violence charge and a misdemeanor assault charge. Buell allegedly got drunk, grabbed his 46-year-old wife by the shirt, dragged her out of the house and tried to get his two female neighbors to fight her. He also allegedly slashed all four tires on the tan GMC truck she was driving and broke the driver's side mirror. The woman reportedly suffered a cut on her wrist. Buell, who has two prior convictions for domestic violence, was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Additional charges were pending.
