Ritter Public Library Pop in for a special story time at 11 a.m. today with local author Bob Hasman at Ritter Public Library, 5680 Liberty Ave., Vermilion. Hasman has written a series of children's books starring beloved family pet Perry the Poodle. Hasman will be reading from his series. For more programs at the library, visit ritter.lib.oh.us or call (440) 967-3798. Road closure Vermilion Road will be closed for 90 days starting Monday. The road will be closed between North Ridge and Middle Ridge roads for a drainage improvement project, according to a statement from the Lorain County Engineer's Office. The cost of the project is $602,889.26, and the Ohio Public Works Commission is providing 73 percent, or up to $407,000. The remaining funds will come from the county engineer's motorist tax/engineering project fund, and partial reimbursements from the county storm water district and the city of Vermilion for work done within city limits. The work will be done by Xtreme Excavating of Vermilion. Work is expected to be done Oct. 7 and access to businesses will be available through Middle Ridge Road. Dancing at the Docks Come dance beneath the stars 7-10 p.m. Friday at Dancing at the Docks at the South Street Municipal Boat Ramp, a free event sponsored by the Vermilion Port Authority. Bring a chair or your dancing shoes and some refreshments and enjoy the sounds of the Swing City Big Band along the Vermilion River. Donations are appreciated. The boat ramp is at the end of South Street, at West River Road. Vettemillion returns Lake Shore Corvette Club members will take to the streets again July 16, lining Vermilion's downtown with their signature rides. Corvette enthusiasts from Huron to Sandusky, Avon, Castalia and all points in between will be in town to show off their rides and admire others. Vermilion Area Archival Society calendars available From Moats Sparkle Market to Tony's Shoe Store, to the Favorite News and Maurer-Wikel Dairy, the 2023 Vermilion Area Archival Society calendar features the "Places We Shopped Part II." Revisit the shops of yesteryear through the calendar. Many are long gone, but some are still standing while others have undergone changes and facelifts. Calendars are $5 and are available at Brummer's Chocolates, 672 Main St., and the Vermilion History Museum, 727 Grand St. Orders by mail will be $7, including postage.
