16th annual Cavalcade of Stars draws NHRA Lucas Oil racers to Norwalk

NORWALK – Competitors in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series gathered at Summit Motorsports Park this weekend for the 16th Annual Cavalcade of Stars event, presented by Budweiser. The event, which traditionally welcomes the largest audience on the annual NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series North Central Division tour, features multiple categories, including: Top Alcohol Dragster; Top Alcohol Funny Car; Competition Eliminator; Super Stock; Stock Eliminator; Super Comp; Super Gas; Super Street; Top Sportsman; and Top Dragster. The event also hosted the R&R Auto Body and DeCerbo Construction Rumble Wars Extreme 8 Pro Mod series. Rumble Wars features supercharged, turbocharged and nitrous powered Pro Mod racing on the eighth-mile with cars capable of running in excess of 200 mph. Lorain County locals Dave Roemer, of North Ridgeville, and Jerry Albert, of Avon, were competing in the Rumble Wars series. Roemer qualified second overall, running 3.736 seconds at 198 mph. Albert qualified sixth with 4.010 seconds at 186.79 mph but was knocked out in the first round by Pat Moore driving for Cleveland Cavs legend Larry Nance in his "Catch 22" Camaro. Roemer was knocked out in the second round by Pat Moore running 4.003 seconds at 190.11 mph to Moore's 3.800 seconds at 191.05 mph run. On Saturday night, fans in attendance were treated to wheelstanders, jet dragsters and a fireworks show. "This is one of the most exciting sportsman events in the country," said Bill Bader Jr., president of Summit Motorsports Park. "It has everything from Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Sportsman to Super Stock and Super Street, and these cars are a sight to see from the starting line to the finish line. We're also ramping things up with jet cars, a wheelstander and fireworks, and we're looking forward to a first-class event."
