ODOT updates on road projects impacting Lorain County drivers

A pair of Ohio Department of Transportation road projects will create new impacts for Lorain County motorists in the upcoming week. ODOT announced in its weekly construction report on Thursday that there will be single-lane closures while crews perform pavement repairs on state Route 303 from Gifford Road to the LaGrange village corporation limits.Flaggers will maintain traffic, and the project is estimated to be completed in July. In Oberlin, state Route 511 will close between North Professor and North Main streets on Wednesday as part of a utility project. The detour route for drivers heading north will be state Route 511 to U.S. 20, east on U.S. 20 to state Route 58, and north on state Route 58 to state Route 511. The detour will be the reverse for southbound motorists.ODOT estimates this project will be completed by May 14. All work is weather permitting, according to ODOT. Several other road projects will have a continuing impact on drivers in Lorain County. There will be shoulder closures at the eastbound and westbound rest areas of state Route 2 near the Lorain County and Erie County line, where an ongoing highway lighting project is taking place. This project is expected to continue into June.Daily and nightly single-lane closures will continue for a resurfacing project on state Route 2, from just east of Baumhart Road to just east of state Route 58. Although the U.S. 6 Charles Berry Bascule Bridge is expected to fully reopen in the first week of May, ODOT has still included it on its list of continuing impacts.The bridge now is only open to eastbound vehicular traffic, pedestrian traffic and marine traffic until mechanical repairs are completed. No official completion date has been announced because the parts have not arrived for work to officially start on permanent repairs. Another ongoing ODOT project that is expected to have continued impact in Lorain County next week is the resurfacing work on U.S. 20 from state Route 10 to Chestnut Ridge Road. At least one lane will be maintained in each direction, and there are no lane width restrictions. The estimated month of completion is October. The Interstate 90 bridge reconstruction between French Creek Road and state Route 611 will also continue. Traffic will be maintained, and the project is estimated to be completed in May 2023.
